Heat Sensing Cable

Key Features:
  • The Alarmline controller ensures that the heat sensing cable system is compatible with most fire control panels.
  • Alarmline can be used in hazardous area installations providing the cable is protected with suitable Zener barriers.
  • For arduous environments optional nylon and metallic braiding are available.
  • Alarmline is self restoring after an alarm fire providing it has not been destroyed or severely mechanically damaged or has not been directly subjected to temperatures greater than 120°C for excessive periods.
The cable consists of four conductors protected by a high temperature PVC insulation. Two of the four cores are temperature sensitive being insulated with a negative temperature coefficient material. The other two cores are insulated with normal PVC insulation. The cores are twisted together within the outer high temperature sheath. The cable is connected to an Alarmline controller and the far end of the cable is terminated with each temperature sensitive core connected to one of the normal PVC insulated cables. This provides for open circuit or short circuit protection throughout the cable length.

Principle of Operation

Alarmline cable senses temperature variations using the Alarmline controller to continuously monitor the resistance of the two cores insulated with a negative temperature coefficient material.

A change in temperature produces a relative change in resistance, as temperature increases, resistance is lowered. This change is monitored by the controller, which actuates an alarm signal at a predetermined level. The integrating effect of the Alarmline sensor cable enables detection of a localised hot spot or a lower level of temperature over its total length. Provided the sensor cable has not been directly subjected to temperatures greater than 120oC for excessive periods, it will recover to its normal condition.

End of Line Termination

Alarmline cable is easily terminated on site, using an end of line termination kit, part no K82023 or in a junction box. Within hazardous areas termination must be with an approved junction box.

The WHITE and ORANGE cores are connected together and the BLUE and RED cores are connected together. An end of line resistor is not required.

Alarmline Analogue Cable Controller

The Alarmline controller monitors Alarmline heat sensing cable. Two types are available:

K82012 provides for two-wire wiring direct to conventional fire panels.

K82194 with auxiliary FIRE and FAULT relays. This can be used for stand along operation or integration via a suitable interface to an analogue fire control panel.

Both types are housed within polycarbonate enclosures to IP55 with a hinged lid.
